Gustav Klimt took three years to complete this work. He made this painting following a request from Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, Adele’s husband. The artist was inspired by Egyptian art: he used gold, silver and several representations of the eye of Horus are distinguished from the dress. Thus, Klimt places himself here in the tradition of the old masters, while breaking with academic art.
