This work by Michelangelo is one of nine frescoes inspired by the book of Genesis on the central part of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. God is depicted as an old bearded man wrapped in a large red cloak that he shares with cherubs. His right arm reaches out to man to give the spark of life. Adam’s body is at rest, his left hand is relaxed, his index finger bent: God gives, Adam receives. This relative symmetry reminds us that man is created in the image of God.u0026nbsp;The detail of this work is clearly visible in The Creation of Adam, detail.
